Creating an overall picture in conjunction with MAP
Individuals high on Matrigma, i.e. very good problem-solving skills, can learn things and solve problems faster. This does not necessarily mean that they are better at something. A person with low Matrigma can compensate with, for example, determination or structure. Matrigma together with the MAP personality test provides a very good overall picture of an individual that can form the basis for confident recruitment decisions.

Matrigma measures an individual’s general problem-solving ability.
Intelligence has been studied since the 19th century. There are many different types of intelligence – such as numerical, linguistic, spatial and others. But what a scientist named Charles Spearman showed in the early 20th century was that they all usually converge in what is known as the g-factor, or general mental ability.
If we put the g-factor at the top of a pyramid, as the collective term for an individual’s general mental ability, we find two aspects directly below the g-factor. Fluid and crystallized intelligence. The G-factor is thus a combination of fluid and crystallized intelligence.
Crystallized intelligence is our collective bank of knowledge and experience and can grow until old age. Individuals with high crystallized intelligence have good general knowledge, good vocabulary, and often get full marks on quizzes. Or to put it another way: a mixture of learned knowledge and a strong ability to remember, store, and retrieve it. Fluid intelligence is our ability to reason, form concepts and solve problems using unfamiliar information and new procedures. We usually describe it as knowing what to do when you don’t know what to do! It is a trait that is largely innate, and remains relatively constant over our lifetime.
Absolutely not. Matrigma is not an intelligence test, it only measures one part – problem-solving ability. Individuals with high Matrigma, i.e. very good problem-solving ability, can learn things and solve problems faster, but this does not necessarily mean that they are better at something. A person who is low on Matrigma can compensate by having a sense of purpose or structure, for example. Just as some people who get A’s in school seem to learn things very easily, without much structure, and others who get A’s do so because they have become good at studying.
Moreover, problem-solving skills alone do not paint the whole picture – all parts of the personality work together. It is also important to remember that the results are compared to a norm group consisting of the working age population, not the whole population, so the results do not tell you how an individual compares to everyone in the general population. If a person has a low score on the Matrigma and recognizes that it can be challenging when encountering new, complex problems or situations, they may be helped by finding strategies that actively help you in your problem solving. For example, many people find it easier to solve new, complex problems if they can get help from colleagues or friends, if they make sure they have, or set aside, enough time, and if they create clear structures for tackling the task. It is also worth remembering that it is new, complex problems that are particularly difficult – the more an individual practices and the more experience they gain with a particular task, the easier it becomes.
General problem-solving ability is something you are largely born with and is stable over time in adults. It does not improve with education or training. However, an individual can definitely become more confident with tests as a format and thus get closer to their own maximum level if they have practiced and understand how the test is structured and thus probably feel less nervous. Much more crucial to the result than training is to ensure that you are well rested, focus only on the test and sit in an undisturbed environment.

Many people with ADHD perform well on matric tests. However, ADHD is a tricky diagnosis, as it can manifest itself in many different ways. What is generally associated with ADHD is impaired executive functions, which means that many people with ADHD may have difficulty planning their work, managing time, staying focused on the task at hand and keeping a lot of information in their heads at the same time. In Adaptive Matrigma, which is the most common version of Matrigma, the individual does not have to allocate their time between tasks and plan their work, as they are presented with each sub-problem separately. Some people with ADHD may find it difficult to stay focused on the task, so it can sometimes be helpful when the task is time-limited. Adaptive Matrigma is only 12 minutes long, which places limited demands on your stamina.
